Designed to take the MINI philosophy of driving fun to the limit, the Coupe features the distinctive 'helmet roof' first seen on the Coupe concept, as well as a steeply-raked rear screen and sits 29mm lower to the road than the hatchback. A pop-up spoiler deploys automatically at speeds above 50mph.
For a more dynamic driving experience, measure have been taken to increase body rigidity and shift the car's weight balance slightly further forward, giving the front-wheel-drive MINI Coupé even better traction off the line. The big change though is the two-seater layout, although there is additional storage space behind the front seats.
Only the most powerful petrol and diesel engines will be available. Outputs range from the 120bhp of the MINI Cooper Coupé, to the 141bhp MINI Cooper SD Coupé and 181bhp MINI Cooper S Coupé, all the way up to the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé with 208bhp. It will be the fastest model in the range to with the top-spec JCW model covering 0-62mpg in 6.4 secconds - a tenth quicker than the JCW hatch.
